Hello blog reader!

Last weekend we went to the movies, picking again a horror movie: Countdown. It was nice, nothing mind-blowing, but I do recommend to see it, especially to realize once again some problems that our society is confronting. I will not give any spoilers and also not describing too much the movie, as you can find that on Wikipedia, but I will tell you what I liked or didn’t about this movie.

Countdown is a supernatural horror movie released in October 2019 with the propose of making a new scary movie suitable with the Halloween celebration time. It has an actual subject, focusing on our technology obsession, telling the story of a group of young people who tries to survive after downloading an app on their phones that tells you when you are going to die.

The movie starts with a group of friends downloading the app that is basically a countdown of years, months, days and hours until you die, and the consequence of that, just to introduce you in the world of it, and what exactly it does. After the main character downloads it herself, the movie is just an attempt of finding a way of staying alive. She teams up with a guy that has the same purpose and they try anything to make it. I am not going to tell you what happened, but I can tell you what I liked about it.

As I said, this is another movie highlighting the modern obsession we have with technology. People are making movies about the apps around phones or computers more and more often: some of them are comedies like The Angry Birds Movie or The Emoji Movie, some of them are horrors like Unfriended or Countdown. Another transposed problem is the power of influence between people, they convince each other to download the app, another representation of what today is called “influencers”. I did like it though, as these were the credible part of the movie. It has some scary moments, the ones when you don’t expect something to scare you, but also some funny lines. It has also an interesting scene at the end.

Countdown is a 90 minutes movie and as part of the the cast you can see Elizabeth Lail, which is known for her main role in the You series and probably you’ve seen her in Once upon a time also, Jordan Calloway known from Riverdale and Peter Facinelli best known for his Twilight role.

My conclusion is that the movie is worth seeing. Don’t expect a super horror movie that will scare you to death and with a really complex story, cuz’ it’s not, but I do think is nice to see it with your friends.

P.S.: What it’s really interesting is that the app Countdown can be found on play store/ app store with the exact name of the movie and the same icon. Would you dare to download it?

Until next time, don’t forget to enjoy yourself! 🙂
